Each year the Annual Show presented by students of the National Circus School dazzles its audiences, and the performances have become a pre-summer solstice ritual eagerly anticipated by growing numbers in love with the “ new circus”.
This year the National Circus School will present two separate and alternating shows, a first for the school. Audiences are invited to attend both Montreal performances in order to fully appreciate the virtuosity and intense energy of the School's 20 graduates, who soon will go on to take the world by storm, appearing under the great big tops and on major stages around the world.
SHOW A : SCENE OF THE CRIME
Gypsy Snider brings to the centre ring Scène de crime (Scene of the Crime). "A circus show in which danger and suspense lie at the heart of intrigue, where acrobats play the victim as well as the hero." Gypsy Snider grew up as part of an alternative circus family in San Francisco, the Pickle Family Circus. As a performer she has appeared in major cabaret shows, as well as with Teatro Dimitri and Cirque du Soleil. Gypsy is cofounder and co-director of The 7 Fingers circus company.
SHOW B : ROSSO DI SERA
Veronica Melis has signed on to direct Rosso di sera, inspired by an Italian proverb roughly equivalent to the English "Red sky at night, sailor's delight." On a theme of the individual's capacity for reinvention, displaced characters migrate in an attempt to reclaim both their souls and identities. Veronica Melis is a multimedia artist and director from Italy. She recently moved to Quebec after collaborating in several Franco-Italian co-creations. Among her numerous dance-theatre creations is Mi ricordo, which she conceived and directed at TOHU in 2008.
