This year 20 creative and virtuoso artists take to the ring at TOHU for two much-anticipated creations. In Il fait dimanche, director Shana Carroll takes audiences into the world of a sterile and synthetic suburb where everything seems perfect. And where people are tempted to leave behind the superficiality of their everyday lives, at the risk of revealing the skeletons in their closets!
Guy Alloucherie directs Journal de bord. In this work the artists present a reflection on both the creative process and risk-taking that characterize the circus, and on the role a performer's social consciousness plays. You will witness it unfolding, full of humour and intensity . . . and acrobatics!
Catch these young artists now, because soon they will vault into new careers with the planet's major circus companies!
-----------------------------------------------
Over the years, shows starring the
National Circus School students have become major circus events and a highlight of the
Montreal cultural calendar. Small wonder, since these performances provide a unique chance to see artists from the four corners of the globe who have come to
Montreal to train at the leading contemporary circus school!
Catch them now, in all their virtuosity, before they move on to astound in the world's great circus rings and on its stages. In order to provide its graduates with the centre-ring experience they so richly deserve, this year the School will present two different and alternating shows.
On the program: juggling, Icarian Games (foot juggling), trapeze, cloud swing, balancing, Chinese pole, hoops and many, many more!
“Circus has a very different look in Canada and beyond today, a phenomenon that can be credited in good part to the National Circus School…“
The Globe and Mail, 2002
